saturday 9: margaritaville

Saturday 9: Margaritaville (1977)

1) In this song Jimmy sings of “booze in the blender.” What do you prepare in your blender?
i used to prepare smoothies and stuff in a blender but then when one of my pets got sick and had to have his food pureed so he could be fed with a syringe, i used it for that. after he passed on, i haven’t used the blender since.

2) As the song opens, Jimmy is sitting on his front porch swing. Describe the front porch of the building you’re in right now.
it’s pretty sparse, actually. i even threw away the welcome mat i used to have there. 😛 but i do notice that there seems to be a lot more “gifts” around the front door from king centipede that i’m so sure patrols the area. right now there’s a big dead roach and a dead lizard near my doorstep. *shudder* yes, i recognize your power, king centipede. leave me alone!

3) Jimmy sings of being able to smell boiling shrimp. Do you prefer your shrimp boiled, glazed or breaded?
i like my shrimp sautéed in butter. yummy. but i don’t mind breaded shrimp either. my mom used to make shrimp tempura (with even her own katsu sauce) on special occasions so that brings back happy memories. 🙂

4) During the song, he mentions his flip flops. Have you put your flip flops and sandals away till spring? Or is it still warm enough to wear them?
oh my gosh it’s still so hot here. i seriously thought i was having hot flashes because i rarely feel hot but this past month has been brutal. i’ve never felt so hot and sticky doing just normal, everyday things. but others have confirmed that it’s been really hot, too, so i guess it isn’t just me. i don’t like the cold, but i kinda can’t wait for the cooler weather to come! but that being said…i never really put my flip flops away. they’re out all year long. so nice and comfy and easy to slip on and off, especially when you’re visiting other people.

5) Jimmy Buffett had hoped this song would be recorded by Elvis Presley, but The King died before he could perform it. What’s the first Elvis song that comes to mind?
i would’ve thought it would be “hound dog” (that was the second song that popped into my mind) but when i first read the question, the song that popped into my mind was “love me tender.”

6) Buffett fans are known as Parrotheads. Concert attire for a well-dressed Parrothead often includes a Hawaiian shirt and a foam fin hat. What will you be wearing tonight?
i am going to a football game tonight, so just jeans and a shirt for me. maybe shorts, actually, and a thin shirt, because of the heat.

7) Loyal Parrotheads paid between $500 and $5000 to see Mr. Buffet at a fundraiser for Barack Obama’s 2012 Presidential campaign. What’s the most you would pay for a concert ticket?
wow. ha. $20? 😛 maybe $50. anything more would be hurting on my budget.

8) Jimmy is an outspoken environmentalist and supports causes like ocean conservation, saving the manatees and expanding the Dallas Zoo. What steps do you take to help save the planet?
we recycle a lot. i also support the wwf every now and then. and my cousin in california has me donate annually to the california wildlife restoration project through her doing walks with them.

9) Uh-oh. When Jimmy and the Coral Reefers played in Wisconsin this past August, more than two dozen concertgoers got tickets for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Do you believe pot should be legalized?
i really don’t know much about the side effects or anything really about marijuana, so i can’t really take a stand until i know more.

    • yum!!

  2. “Love Me Tender” is such a sweet song. I appreciate “Hound Dog,” but it’s not sweet.

    • yes. the way his voice sounds when he sings it too makes the hairs on my neck stand up. it’s so caring and sweet.
