friday 5 for august 2: the grass is always greener

from here.

What’s something non food-related you have to go to a nearby town to do because the town where you live doesn’t have it?
it used to be go to the library but we have one now and it’s nice. it used to be go to walmart to get cheap stuff for school but we have one now and it’s nice. it used to be go to bale to get a bubble tea but now we have a whole shop just dedicated to that and it’s nice (too bad i can’t drink it any more! oh, and i guess that’s sorta food-related). it used to be go get business done, like renew your license, but we have one now and it’s nice. it used to be to go and get cheap gas but we have costco now and it’s nice (because it’s even cheaper than the other town’s gas!). it used to be to have to go to turn in recyclables but now we have one and it’s…well, it’s a recycling center. there is one thing though that we don’t have…beaches. i still have to go away for that one.

What’s something you go to a nearby town to do because your town’s version of it isn’t as good?
actually i think there is a beach i could go to but i prefer the calmer waters and less shadiness of the others.

What’s something people in nearby towns come to your town to do?
we have a movie theater, a gym, many restaurants, costco, walmart, target, a library (which one neighboring town does not have), a water park, and a huge park for soccer. every now and then they have special events on this huge field, known as the fairgrounds: the carnival, a circus, sunset on the plain, and other fairs are held there every so often, drawing in lots of people. there’s also the dmv, the courthouse, and other state and city government offices (like personnel) that people come here for to get special business done.

In what way are residents of a nearby town different from residents in your town?
i think people would think that the surrounding towns are sort of “ghetto” with one side having a lot of immigrants and the other side a lot of “rough” people but i think they are much more friendly than in other parts of the island. :/

Many towns give themselves nicknames, like “______ Capital of America” or “America’s ___________est Town” or “Home of __________.” What would be a good nickname along these lines to give the town where you live?
well, our nickname is the “second city.” and i dread that it is becoming that more and more each day–although it’s nice to have the walmart, the costco, the restaurants, etc., along with all that comes the throngs of people, and with *them*, the traffic. ugh.
