friday 5 for july 5: high school music

from here.

What song, album, or artist, disliked by you in high school, now sounds pretty good?
hmm. i didn’t like most of debbie gibson’s songs. i only really liked “out of the blue” and somewhat liked “only in my dreams.” i didn’t like any of her slow songs. but they tend to play her songs a lot on the radio station i used to listen to (i don’t listen to that station any more as i detest its morning show guy), and i’ve come to like “lost in your eyes.” what was strange was when i first heard it again after a long time of not hearing it, i knew all the words! how the heck when i never liked that song??

What specific high-school memory do you have of discovering some song, album, or artist you considered old?
i don’t think i have one. my dad played his music all.the.time. so i don’t think i discovered anything in high school because i had already heard it over and over again since i could remember!

What song or album best serves as the soundtrack for your senior year of high school? (bonus challenge: answer this question with a different song or album for each year of high school!)
gosh. i’m so bad at knowing when songs came out. i don’t know that i can think of one.

What’s a song, album, or artist from your high-school years you loved then (and might still love) but have great difficulty listening to now, and what’s the reason?
i loved “the flame.” but every time i hear it, i feel this pang in my chest. for some reason, i just get really melancholy when i hear it. it makes me long for the past, even though i most closely associate it to a very confusing relationship back then.

What song, album, or artist from your high-school years, seemingly forgotten nowadays, do you still listen to with fondness?
most songs from that era. i have a lot on my phone that just make me smile when i hear them.
