friday 5: october, november, and december

Who stands out among people you met in 2012?
i didn’t meet very many people but the ones i did all stood out in their own special way.

What new interest did you discover in 2012?

i was a bit healthier.

What small, symbolic item might serve as a good souvenir for 2012?
a beaded charm i made.

Many years from now, what song, when you hear it on the radio, will remind you most of 2012?
i really don’t know. maybe gangnam style.

What are your thoughts on eggnog?
it’s nice.

How self-conscious do you get when someone’s pointing a camera at you?

What was the last meal you took a photo of?
wow, it’s been a while! i used to be pretty good with uploading to foodspotting but i haven’t done so in a long time. maybe not since june, when i went to hilo, and took photos of everything we ordered and ate. oh, and i think one of the photoaday challenges for instagram was dinner or lunch or something, so i took a picture of that. i think that was after june.

When were you last bitten or stung by something?
last night.

What’s something people miss most when they move away from your area?
gosh, i don’t know. i think it would depend on where they move to? like i could say they miss the quietness, but what if they moved into the middle of the boonies? they wouldn’t miss the quiet.

On long day-trips, do you prefer to be the driver or passenger? Why?
passenger!!! i really don’t like to drive.

You know those delicatessens that name sandwiches after famous people? What would be the ingredients of the sandwich named after you?
i don’t know, but it wouldn’t look at all appetizing and will probably be very bland.

What’s your favorite part of staying in a hotel?
it’s made especially for your comfort. and someone comes to clean up after you, recreating the same perfect look you first saw every single time.

What was the last book you read, and how was it?
well, i’m in the middle of reading 3 right now. i think the last one i finished was math talks, and it was pretty good.

What’s something super-unhealthy you’ve recently eaten?
i just had a handful of cheese nips. yikes.

What do you do with all those Christmas cards with photos of friends and their kids?
they sit on a pile on my table. the only one i’ve hung up is the one of my nephew and nieces.

work stuffs.

Where in your life should you probably hit the brakes?
getting stressed.

Where do you go when you just need a little tune-up?

my twirly skirt.

What’s the best black food?

How did you pass the time during your most recent extended blackout (power outage)?
i played on my phone.

When did you last play blackjack?
i don’t recall. it was probably online.

What are some songs in your iTunes (or other media player) whose titles contain the word black?
i only have 3: “black or white,” “blackbird,” and “paint it black.”

What’s something that’s better on the rocks?
pig. or laulau.

Whose behavior has been beyond belief?
well, i can think of a few, but when i put myself in their shoes, i can empathize.

In what way do you color outside the lines?
probably work. i think about and do things very differently than my coworkers do.

summertime, i guess. but i don’t completely believe it.

hmm. i’m not sure?

What’s Happening?
not much.

Who’s the Boss?
not me.

What are you most likely to be up to from 9 to 5 tomorrow?
remembering grandma. ♥

If you suddenly received a ton of money and could open up some kind of store or service just for the pleasure of having it (assume it wouldn’t have to be too financially successful!), what would it be?
gosh, i don’t know. some sort of art or music store, i would guess.

What service or store that no longer exists do you miss most?
borders! 😦

What local business do you think you could make better if you were to take it over? And if you don’t mind sharing, what changes would you make?
oh i know nothing about business! give me a company, and i’d run it into the ground. they shouldn’t take any advice from me.

What spot nearby seems to be impossible for businesses to survive in?
where the new foodland opened is currently in the middle of nothing. i mean, houses are planned for the area, but right now, it’s in the middle of nowhere. still, it gets business, but i don’t think it’ll be as good until the houses planned for the area get built.

We’ve all seen stores that combined books and records, beer and laundry, or coffee and whatever. One of my favorite places to get coffee in Honolulu is a cafe and florist, and there is a car garage that’s also a diner in a town nearby. What would be a cool hybrid of two disparate ideas for somewhere you’d like to hang out?
one of the frozen yogurt places here just recently turned itself into an internet cafe. that would be cool, to have a place you can hang out with your computer and eat frozen yogurt. 🙂

What was the cause of your last working up a sweat?
cleaning the house.

What routine part of your life seems to take more mental effort for you than for most others?

What’s something many others consider laborious but you consider rather easy?

What’s something you’re going to have to do really soon but have been putting off just because it’s going to be a lot of work?
get rid of things.

Where’s the steepest hill in your neighborhood?
the next neighborhood up is on a steep hill.

What is your history with cigarettes?
there isn’t a history.

What is your history with alcoholic drink?
not much of a history here, either. i’ve sipped a few, but that’s about it.

What was the worst trouble you got into at school?
violating the dress code. 😳

What’s something you got away with in school but shouldn’t have?
i gave a very impromptu speech in speech class. i wasn’t supposed to go until the day after, so i hadn’t planned it at all–but everyone that was supposed to go that day passed and took the f. of course, i couldn’t do that!!! so i got up and just said things off the top of my head, with no research or organization or anything. and i still got a b for it, only because i was a minute too short (i couldn’t think of anything else to say, plus i had no evidence to back anything up because i hadn’t even researched for it yet!!!). i don’t think i shouldn’t have gotten that grade, but i was grateful for it–much better than the f!

Who’s your partner in crime?
my son.

What do you remember about high-school dances?
not much. i always hung out outside with my friends, instead of inside, so i don’t really know what went on in there.

At whose house would you and your friends usually gather after school-related activities?
both of my good friends lived down the street from my school, one to one side, and the other on the other side of the main road. so we’d go to either one.

Who in your school had a memorable nickname?
one of my friends always introduced herself as ‘pill.’ we have no idea why, as it doesn’t sound like either of her names (usually kids’ nicknames came from a shortened version of their last name), and she never really explained why. but yeah, she was called pill.

What was your high-school cafeteria like?
it was pretty awesome, and what most of us reminisce about on Facebook. it was pretty huge (it’s called a dining hall) with lots of round tables and chairs all about. there’s a stage to one side. then the food area took up about a fourth of the whole space. everything was buffet style, so you could take as much as you wanted, or only what you want. one long table was all the main dish items; another table had all breakfast items, which were leftover from the boarders’ breakfast, in case you fancied that type of food; there was a full salad bar–not only lettuce and veggies but also pasta salad, jello, etc., like a regular restaurant salad bar; there was a sandwich bar, with different breads, and peanut butter, butter, and an assortment of jellies, plus some sort of cold-cut and cheese, and condiments; there was a pizza bar, which was very popular; there was the burgers and fries bar, also very popular; and sometimes they’d have desserts out. my usual lunch was a pizza and fries, and a salad. i really only ate the main dish when they had nachos, hawaiian food, or the best–shepherd’s pie. yum!!!

Your parents aren’t reading this, so what were some of the crazy (or just memorable) things you or your friends did while driving?
well considering none of my friends had their licenses–i didn’t even get mine until i was 21–there really wasn’t any craziness done, because our dads were the ones who had to drive us places. 😛

Where is your favorite tree?
it’s actually been cut down (it was diseased) but there was one in the park that i used to love. it was good for shade, and i often sat under that tree while with sisters or cousins at the park. one memory i have is taking my little nephew out to the park, because he fussed when my sister was gone (she was still going to college; i had already graduated, but would not be started my new job for several months, as i graduated mid-year). he would fuss when my sister left, but he loved grandma, so i would take him to the park after my sister left, and we’d wait until my mom finished work at the nearby school (she worked part-time, so would finish by 11). we’d sit on the bench under the tree, and i would sway with him as i sang his full name to him, and once he started to get antsy, i’d remind him to look for grandma–she should be coming soon! then we’d see her come around the corner, and my nephew would kick his legs like crazy in joy at seeing her (he couldn’t walk yet, otherwise he’d have run to her). ahhh. i cherish moments like that. especially since now said nephew is a senior in high school and is going off to college soon! aiyiyi!

Where is your favorite chair?
my favorite chair is at my mom’s house. it’s actually my sister’s hubby’s computer chair. but it is just soooo comfy.

Who has your favorite hair?
i like my niece’s hair–she’s growing it out, so it’s the longest it’s ever been, but it’s nicely colored with highlights, and is sort of that ombre shade that is so popular right now, but it’s nice, and i envy that she has a lot as i’m so paranoid that i’m losing too much hair right now. 😥

What’s your favorite mug (or other drinking vessel) like?
i really don’t have one. i had a mug from my first job that i really liked, but i used it to keep pens and stuff, since i didn’t drink coffee or anything. it’s too naughty for me to use now, though.

Where’s your favorite parking spot (not at home)?
while i’m waiting for the no-parking hours to be over, i like to park in the nearby school’s parking lot, under the big tree, and tilt the seat back and relax. 🙂
