friday 5: january & february

♥ u, grandma.

from here.

What significant anniversary will you be celebrating sometime this year?
i’m not a big anniversary person. nothing really to celebrate, i guess. it’s my alma mater’s 125th anniversary, however.

In your life, what is today the one-month anniversary of?
hmmm. i was going to say finding out about my grandma, but i think that was a few days prior. oh! on november 27, i turned into a puddle of goo after experiencing yumminess on the big screen.

What is today the one-week anniversary of?
with everything that’s happened over this break, i can’t even think of what i did last week. :S they all kinda blur together.

Sometimes the traditional wedding anniversary gifts seem a bit staid. If you had your way, what would be the right gift themes for the five years’ worth of wedding anniversaries?
gosh, i don’t even know what it is now. and not being the type to celebrate such things and having no experience in this field, i don’t know what would be the right thing.

Among your friends, who’s been married the longest?
one of my colleagues just celebrated her 38th wedding anniversary in october.

What’s your favorite green article of clothing?
erg. i don’t like green. but i do have a green school t-shirt–i think that’s the only thing i own that’s green, so while it’s not my “favorite,” it’ll have to do for the answer.

What could you do with a little bit of extra spending green this weekend?
pay off my bills.

In what way are you conservative of natural resources?
well, we recycle plastic water bottles. which i realize is not being green, because i could just use a cup over and over and over again. i also rarely turn on the lights, even at work.

When did you last shoot some pool?
oh gosh. i think i last did this with a friend from work my first year. we’d drive (well, i’d drive to my home, and she’d follow, and then i’d jump in with her) to world cafe and play pool and darts. i was much better at darts. in fact, i was pretty good at it. i wasn’t very good at pool. but we’d giggle over it a lot, especially after my friend made a comment about the way i held the cue. 😛

Of whom are you envious lately?
i’ve been thinking of this. i wonder if the reason i get so irritated by my colleagues is that i’m envious of them–well, one in particular. she gets all the accolades and praise for things that i had been doing long before (after telling me first that what i was doing would never work–but then she tries it out, and everyone loves her for it), but i am never acknowledged. i know there’s some resentment on my part in that. i feel like when i give the idea, it’s not good enough, but when she does it, everyone fawns over it–even if she’s repeating the same thing i said a month or a year earlier. like, why when i said it, no one cared? so, yeah, maybe a touch of jealousy there. 😉

When did you last have a bubble bath?
it’s been a while. definitely before my son was born. my last solo bubble bath was way back when i was a child.

What are your thoughts on bubble-wrap?

In general, how large is your interpersonal-space bubble compared to other people’s?
i don’t think it’s very large. i’m used to having kids all around me, hugging me, wanting to hold my hand, coming right up to me and staring at me close-up. (yes, i’m an oddity.) i don’t think many other people would enjoy that, but it doesn’t bother me.

What carbonated beverage have you most recently enjoyed?
gosh. it’s been years since i had a carbonated beverage–before my son was born, as well. i gave it all up when i was pregnant. i think the last one i drank would’ve either been a root beer or a creme soda. i had bought those two as bottles and am not sure which one i consumed last.

Who in your life can be described as having a bubbly personality?
oh gosh. practically everyone i work with. my cousin, too, is very bubbly. so she matches her profession, unlike me.

What’s a film, adapted from a book you liked, that was as good as (or better than) its source material?
i haven’t seen many films, so i’m not sure. i don’t think the films i have seen are based on books, or if they had been, i hadn’t read the book. hmm. maybe charlie and the chocolate factory (“willy wonka and the chocolate factory” for the film). i liked how the movie added in the everlasting gobstopper part, and charlie being loyal and returning it, thus allowing him to “win” the factory, rather than just having him be the only one left, so by default, he gets it. i also liked that he did the fizzy lifting drink (though that’s the part i hate most in the movie–the burping was so gross!) to show he’s not perfect, either. but he had a good heart in returning the candy that mr. slugworth needed — “so shines a good deed in a weary world.” to me, that extra storyline made the movie better than the book.

What’s a good film based on a book you disliked?
hmm. i don’t think i know of one.

What film, adapted from a book you liked, was horribly disappointing?
ditto. again, i haven’t watched very many films. the ones i have watched where i read the book first, i wasn’t disappointed in. really, the only two i can think of are charlie and the chocolate factory and mrs. frisby and the rats of nimh, but i liked both books and movies. i haven’t even seen like charlotte’s web or mr poppers penguins or any of those, so i wouldn’t know how they compare to the books.

What book, not yet made into a film, would make a really good film?
only because i’m currently reading them to my kids, i think some of the magic tree house series would make an interesting movie. or at least, a tv special.

What’s a book you’ve read because you liked the film that was based upon it?
i don’t think i have done this.

What are your favorite storage containers like?
i use those big bins. bulky, but they can stack, and they keep silverfish out.

What seems to require more time and energy to store than it’s worth?
hmm, i don’t really know.

What unusual container are you storing something in?
i don’t know that anything’s stored in an unusual container, as i look around.

What packaged product has a container you really like?
i haven’t really given that a thought. hmm. i guess some of those cold cut containers are reusable; that’s always nice.

If you suddenly had some new storage space in your home, what would likely go there?
all my crafts and junk i used to store in the extra room, until it became my son’s room.

What was your first wristwatch like?
i’m pretty sure it was a swatch. it was pastelly blue with a pink face, if i recall correctly, and i had a turquoise swatch guard over the face. if it wasn’t my swatch, then it was my video game watch. yes, i was a geek even back then. on my watch, you could play frogger. 🙂

What lately seems to have been a thief of time?
just life itself, i guess. i really didn’t want time to pass too quickly this break, for reasons other than not having to go to work. you always wish you have more time when you realize that you don’t have a lot of time left.

What were yesterday’s quietest five minutes like?
very emotional.

In what way have you lately been saving time?
i don’t think i have! i’ve been taking things very slowly these past couple of weeks.

We are often charged hourly rates for labor, but we never get to reciprocate in kind when promised completion times don’t match actual completion. If you could bill people for the time you spend waiting, what would be a reasonable amount?
i don’t think my time is worth anything.

What’s a decorative font you really like?
lately i’ve really liked handwriting fonts. the one i use most often is hellofirstie.

MS Word uses Times New Roman as the default plain font; Apple Pages uses Helvetica. Is there a plain font you like better?
i like palatino for formal letters. i also like century gothic; i use it for all my assessments.

In words per minute, how fast do you type?
it used to be around 90. it’s probably less now.

Who in your life is just your type, but for some reason not romantically compatible with you?
i don’t think anyone wants to be romantically compatible with me.

What’s your blood type?
gosh, i never know this. i actually only found out when i was pregnant–they had asked me, and i had no idea. so they did a blood test and told me, but i still can’t remember what it is. i know i definitely am not an o, though.

If they could invent a remote control for something in your house that doesn’t have one, what would you wish it to be?
the lights. i hate already being comfy in bed but then having to go stand up to turn off the lights.

What could your car really use that they just hasn’t invented yet?

Who among your friends could probably be a great inventor if he or she had enough funding to do it?
my son. okay, he’s not a friend, per se, but he’s got some great ideas he always sketches out.

What invention seems to do its job in a less-satisfying manner than the old-fashioned way?
hmm. i can’t think of anything right now.

Lately, vending machines have gone beyond drinks and snacks: you can rent DVDs from them or even purchase iPods from them. What’s something your life could be improved by if it were available in vending machines?
i’m not thinking creatively enough (obviously my son got that from his dad) because all i can think of is water.
