Friday5: Tired


What were the circumstances surrounding your last all-nighter?

it’s been a while. i think it was earlier this month, and it wasn’t really because i had work to do or anything. i suffer from restless legs (yes, it is real, and not something made up by pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs), and so spent a whole night just moving my legs around to relieve the creepy-crawlies. that kept me up all night, as it always does whenever it strikes. i usually don’t fall asleep until about 5am, which is not good when you have your alarm set for 5:30. luckily, it was my day off that day, but sadly i was not at home, so i could not spend the whole night playing on the computer or surfing the web. i had to just toss and turn all night in a dark house. *sigh*

i haven’t had an all-nighter because of work for a long time, maybe several months. maybe back in march? that was when i was working on my nephew’s & niece’s videos. i can’t think of anything else since then…

What’s your favorite stay-awake-and-alert food or drink?

gosh, i try not to eat or drink anything because then that’ll just keep me up. oh, unless i want to stay up? ummm…i guess i don’t really eat or drink anything special (just water) throughout the night. my goal is just to finish as quickly as possible so i can get to sleep when i’m done, so i don’t go out of my way to get something to *keep* me up. i’m not sure there’s anything specific that would just keep me up, anyway. anything would work, i think.

What are you most likely to be doing when you’re up in the late, late hours of the night?

i’m on the computer, as always. maybe watching something on tv, but most often, i’m on the computer.

In what way does your personality change when you are sleep-deprived?

well, i’m just extra-quiet. yes, i am normally, but even more so, if that’s possible. usually it’s because i have a bad headache if i don’t get enough sleep, so i just try to limit outside stimulation as much as possible. so i’ll just sit and not say anything and not really take in anything. when i’m at work and this happens, i know i’m much more calm, so i have to do my best to be animated for my kiddies to stop them from falling asleep themselves. i don’t think i get grouchy, i just don’t seem…alive.

If you get home extremely tired and extremely hungry, which need are you most likely to satisfy first?

okay this just totally cancels out what i said above, but i have to eat first. otherwise, i’ll wake up every hour or so, starving, and i’ll have a hard time going back to sleep. so i’d rather hold off on the sleep a while longer, get something in my tummy, so that when i *do* get to sleep, i can just crash! it’s annoying waking up every hour because i’m hungry (this happens every time i have to fast overnight before taking a blood test! since it’s fasting for 12 hours, and i have to go before work at 6am, i have to stop eating at 6pm…and i then get sooooo hungry at around 11pm…) and especially when you’re reallllly tired. i’d rather eat first even if it may make me stay up a while longer, from the little “burst” of energy it gives me…and then afterwards, i can just crash and not worry about getting up until i have to. sleep is much more important to me, so i have to take care of the thing that’s going to keep me from getting to sleep first! 😛 if that makes sense! 😉
