Friday5: Catching Up

yikes, how long did i forget to do these again? i think i was just so burnt out from nablopomo!

Friday5 for December 28: Alphabet Soup

An acronym is an abbreviation formed with the initials (or pieces) of a longer phrase, such as USA (for United States of America) or LASER (for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation).

What is an acronym specific to your workplace or profession? (students who don’t work: What is an acronym specific to your campus or major?)

doe. and we’re actually known for our love of acronyms–nclb, hcps, isped, esis, fuba, iep, lep/fep/nep, ppt, ea, sasa…we’ve got a ton of them.

What is an acronym you use a lot in your personal life?

hmm i don’t know that i use any? i mean aside from scuba and laser…maybe once in a while, i’ll use “tmi” but i don’t use it a lot.

Internet acronyms are unavoidable, but what’s one you particularly despise, and what’s one you particularly like?

gosh i hate hate HATE “LOL”. i just don’t like it. what’s wrong with just typing out what you are saying? like “ha” or “hee” or “ho” or whatever? “lol”…ick. one that i like? hmmm. maybe ones i use and are probably overused–”brb” or “bbl”. brb almost sounds like the words it’s shortening, if the person were mumbling it and walking away from you at the same time. brb.

What acronym could you create right now for some regular annoyance in your life?

pasr. :D

What would be a memorable or appetizing acronym for your most recent meal? (if your most recent meal was a BLT or SOS or some similarly acronymed food, please choose the next-most recent meal, smart alecks!)

umm. i just had an orange. o? heeheehee j.o. :D

Friday 5 for December 21: Here in My Car I Feel Safest of All

If money were no concern and LOOKS the only consideration, what car would you get yourself? (pictures for questions like this are always nice!)

i am so not a car person. i don’t know. as long as it’s not boxy-looking…i don’t care for those types of cars. anything else is fine with me.

If money were no concern and YOUR LIFESTYLE the only consideration, what car would you get yourself?

just something really low maintenance and reliable. again, i know nothing about cars. so i don’t want a car that’s going to be expensive to upkeep or cause a lot of problems that i don’t know how to fix. something simple and easygoing is all i want.

What is the best thing about your current car? If you do not own a car, what is the best thing about the car you most often ride in?

i like that it runs. seriously. cars are expensive! i’m just glad mine works.

If cars could be skinned the way cell phones, laptop computers, and iPods can, what would be a really cool skin for your car?

ohhh i looooove skins. i got skins on almost anything i can get skinned (except this laptop, i’d feel guilty covering over the apple). if i could get a skin for my car? hmmm…maybe a turtle? like that cute one on nemo? squirt or something? or something with dolphins, maybe like a wyland painting that’s on one of those buildings, so my car can blend in :)

If you were going to decorate a friend’s car with a custom-made skin as a practical joke, whose car would you skin and what would it be?

i really don’t know. i’d get my sister a skin with her dogs on it, but it wouldn’t be as a practical joke. i guess my mind doesn’t really work that way?!?!

Friday 5 for December 14: Sing of Happy

What’s your favorite song about growing up?

hmmm. that cat in the cradle song is kinda sad, but it’s what i think of when you say “growing up”.

What’s your favorite song about cars or driving?

hmm i can only think of “fast car” right now — “remember when we were driving / driving in your car / speeding so fast, felt like i was drunk / city lights lay out before us / and your arm felt niced wrapped ’round my shoulder / and i had a feeling like i belonged / i had a feeling that i could be someone…” i love the guitar on that. other than that, i can only think of “shake it up” by the cars. :P oh! wait, didn’t they have a song called “drive”? “who’s gonna take you home?”

What’s your favorite song whose title is a person’s name?

kauanoeanuhea :)

What’s your favorite get-up-and-dance song?

i have a lot! there’s quite a few out there where i just can’t sit still when i hear it–i have to get up and start dancing.

What’s your favorite novelty song?

what does this mean?

Friday 5 for December 7: Used to Be My Playground

What playground game do you remember most fondly?

we always played house on the playground ;) the underneath part of the slide would be our house and we’d always try to “capture” a guy to be our husband, but of course, just ended up irritating the boys who wanted to climb and play and not be a husband. *sigh* some things don’t change, huh?

What playground game did you just hate?

i hated sham battle. i would purposely try to get hit so i could get out of there and sit on the side.

Which playground apparatus did you most enjoy?

i liked those balance beam thingies. especially if they were swervy like snakes. those were fun.

Which playground apparatus did you generally avoid or not care much for?

i had no arm strength to do the monkey bars so i stayed away from those. i also had no arm strength to pull myself up on those jungle gyms so they were just another “house” we could have when playing house, but i never climbed all over it like my monkey of a sister could.

What playground game might be really fun if grownups played it with adult rules?

heh.

Friday5: Criss and Larry

Are you a mentalist or an illusionist?

i do like to think i’m more mental but i guess i do put up a pretty good illusion to who i am or what i may be feeling.

You’re on a roll. Do you feel the roll you’re on?

i’m about to jump off this roll! it’s about to come to a crashing halt ;) at least for a while.

How many performances a week?

i feel like i’m performing every day with my kids.

Is there a little bit of Evel Knievel in you?

sadly, no.

How much of what you do is physical, by the way?

not very physical, actually. everything’s all in my head.

from friday5.

therapeutic moisturizing lotion

from here.

::Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion::

Onesome: Therapeutic– household addons: Do you use candles or aroma therapy or bath soaps or salts around your place?

i used to always use candles, when i first moved in here. i just loved the scent, and i loved the glow it gave off. but i haven’t used candles in a long time. i do have those aromatherapy plugins though–they smell really good and are supposed to help with stress and relaxation.

Twosome: Moisturizing?– How’s the weather been? It’s the rainy season in the US; what’s happening where you live?

we just had a storm earlier this week, but today was back to hot weather.

Threesome: Lotion– Since it’s Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s dry skin time (yes, you too, Mark!). Do you have any hand lotion suggestions for the gang?

no. i only use hand lotion that smells good so i can rub it in and smell it all day long. i have no idea how it helps dry skin out, though. i just like its perfume.

ww#48: friends

from here.

1. are you currently in, or have you ever had, a FWB (friends with benefits) relationship?

no, not currently. i don’t think i ever had, though. or maybe in my mind it was something more, and to the guy it was just a friendship? that could be possible.

2. have you ever had sexual contact with a friend, and then later regretted it?

no.

3. do you have a friend or acquaintance, or perhaps someone you are friend with at work/the gym, that you would consider having a sexual relationship with? why or why not?

i think about it sometimes. i would never pursue it though, unless i was absolutely sure that person felt the same way about me. which means it’ll stay in my dreams! ;)

tina’s tuesdays: going to the movies

from here.

What was the last movie you saw at the theater?

i went to see the simpsons movie the first day it came out.

Did you enjoy watching it? Why or why not.

i did! i haven’t gotten to watch the simpsons lately (the past few seasons), but it didn’t matter. it’s still hilarious. there were several laugh-out-loud moments, and it was just great to sit among other simpsons geeks who got all the little jokes here and there.

What’s the next movie you wish to go see in the theater?

nothing really excites me, that i have heard is out or is coming out. might have to wait another 19 years for a simpsons 2 movie!

mab: random joy

from here.

Random Joy

1. If you had to go back in time and give advice to the first humans that walked the Earth, what would you tell them?

to always be nice to each other. don’t yell, don’t hit, don’t go to war, etc.

2. If you could have one part of your body massaged every day, which would you choose?

it would be nice to get a massage in that area below the neck on your back. on days i have a headache, it would be nice to have my temples massaged instead.

3. Are there any smells that make you feel instantly nostalgic? If so, what are they?

yes, whenever i smell plumeria or pikake, i am instantly taken back to hula days. whenever i smell pakalana, i think of my grandma. whenever i smell maile, i think of graduation or hula. whenever i smell beef stew simmering away, i get a cozy feeling all over, thinking back to small-kid time, whenever it was chilly out. every once in a while, a smell will just hit me–and i can recognize it being from school or my mom’s house or something.

4. If the choice for the legal age of consent in your country was up to you, which age would you deem appropriate?

i don’t know. it’d probably be much higher than most are doing it nowadays! you have sixth graders doing that kinds of stuff now. i’d say wait until they’re out of high school.

5. If you could have known one of your current friends as a child, who would you pick?

i think mel would’ve been a blast to know as a child.

train ride

from here.

If I could take a train ride across any continent, I’d choose Europe. I had always wanted to go to Greece to see the Parthenon because I loved Greek mythology when I was younger. I’d also love to see Spain to test out my spanish and taste the food of Italy. I’d love to see the different cultures and people, even if the last thing they want there is another tourist. :)

Friday5: Picture This!

(typing this on the phone, so forgive the no questions part. Go to here to see them.)

1. “wth?”

2. It would be on a magazine that doesnt care how if they sell any copies or not. I don’t know any that would.

3. several of my son’s toys lined up would be cool to get at different angles.

4. my dad was good at taking photos of us, especially with his b&w camera.

5. Ugh, neither! Candids I look retarded; posed I look dorky.

Gosh this took WAY too long on the phone. Will have to come back later and clean it up.

numeros part 2

from here.

…and, start over….

1. Are you afraid of heights?

yes. i can’t even watch others up high. when i would watch my niece climb the jungle gym, i got all woozy and my knees felt weak.

2. What’s your favorite Cyndi Lauper song?

“time after time.” “girls just wanna have fun” was a good, boppy song, but i really liked her slow songs, too. she has such a powerful voice with lots of emotion.

3. What’s your favorite newspaper?

um. midweek, i guess–it’s the only one that’s delivered to my house. otherwise i read online sites.

4. What’s your favorite Broadway musical?

well, the only one i’ve seen, and i don’t even know if it is “broadway”, was the phantom of the opera. i sobbed through the whole thing.

5. What’s your favorite knock-knock joke?

for first time knock-knockers, i like to do the banana/orange one. my dad used to always do that to us. when i was a child a very popular one was “mima.”

6. Do you prefer baths or showers?

showers. i don’t like sitting in bathwater. i used to take baths often as a child, but now it kinda grosses me out.

7. Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?

i don’t chew gum at all, but who the heck rechews their gum that has been sitting out? bleah!

8. Who’s your favarite game show host?

well i enjoyed bob barker back in the day but i also had a soft spot for bill cullen. i thought wink martindale and chuck woolery were very handsome, too. and i enjoyed ben stein because he was so smart.

9. Do you like guacamole?

ummm, i guess it’s okay? i’ll eat it if it’s like already on my nachos but i won’t go ahead and choose it if it was just out as dip or something. i prefer tomatoey salsa.

10. Have you ever been in a food fight?

i don’t think so.

11. Have you ever taken a picture in one of those little booths?

yes. we’d do that quite often!

12. What’s the longest you’ve ever waited in line?

wow. hmmm. i can’t recall. i probably blocked it from memory.

13. What’s on the cover of your address book or day planner?

ummm…hair? heehee my address book and day planner are all in my head. i don’t write those kinda stuff down. my school planner has like a typical girly sheet i made with hearts and stuff.

Posted by: malia | November 21, 2007

numeros part 1

seen here.

1. What’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book?

well i haven’t read very many–i used to love one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish when i was like in 2nd grade. and of course, there’s green eggs and ham. but i think the one that really sticks in my head is the ABC book just because i used to hear my sister read that book to my nephew when he was an infant, and she did it in such an infectious, sing-songy manner, that i can still remember it to this day (and my nephew is now 12!!!) “big a, little a, what begins with a? aunt annie’s alligator, a, a, a. big b, little b, what begins with b? barber baby bubbles and a BUMblebee.” oh great, that song’s gonna be stuck in my head now!

2. If you could live in any home on a television series, what would it be?

oh gee, i don’t know. ummm…dylan’s house on 90210. if he came with it, too ;)

3. What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep?

maybe a day and a half? around there?

4. What’s your favorite Web site?

google’s the handiest :)

5. What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found at a garage sale or thrift store?

i’ve never gone to a garage sale before. but my mom recently went to one and purchased my son a baseball bat for only $8! a steal, when bats like those go for over $75 (some were even more than a $100!) at sports authority.

6. What’s the best costume you’ve ever worn?

i was pebbles quite a few times. not the *best*, but all-out, at least.

7. What’s your least favorite word?

i have several, and it really upsets me to especially hear them when children are present.

8. Where do you go for advice?

internet.

9. What did you do for your 13th birthday?

errr…we probably went to stuart anderson’s. of course, we did that every year, so that’s a safe answer since i don’t remember back that far!

10. What’s the most memorable class you’ve ever taken?

gosh. there were a few. i enjoyed my creative writing class. i liked my language classes. oh, i loved chant & dance. then there’s the bad memories classes as well…

11. What’s your favorite commercial?

well, these tend to change. i may really like a commercial but then after seeing it 10 million times, it’s irritating. one commercial i always crack up at though, no matter how many times i saw it, was the jack in the box chipotle commercial. just seeing those squiggles of jack’s mouth sends me into fits of giggles.

12. If you could go to Disney World with any celebrity alive today, who would it be?

oh i’d go with anyone who’d pay for me :) and got me whatever i wanted.

13. What’s your favorite breakfast food?

steak :)

14. If you could have a super power, what would it be?

i would like to be able to be invisible, or fly. both would be great :)

15. Name five songs to which you know all the lyrics.

wow, where do i start? oh let’s start with the ones we did in class: ‘ehiku mau la, na mahina, na keiki, hakalama, and pi’apa :D

(i’ll save the second one for tomorrow as i fear meme sites will not be updating tomorrow…)

tina’s tuesdays: the blogger in you

from here.

The Blogger in You

How many times do you blog in a day/week?

usually once a week, if that. when i have a lot of time and find a few, i’ll do several in a day.

What topics do you talk about when blogging?

almost everything ;)

How many blogs do you currently have? List them.

i have two. this one, and the other one.

monday’s a b-word

from here.

Home Sweet Home

1.Which room in your home best represents your personality?

hmmm. i guess my bedroom? :) and not in that way!

2.What are your neighbours like?

they all pretty much keep to themselves. i have one though who is constantly parking over the line into my stall. then when i park close to the line (but not over it, mind you! still on my side!), she leaves me nasty notes on my car saying that i parked too close to her. *sigh*

3.What style of home decor suits your taste most(eg.country,modern,ect.)?

simple. i don’t care about decor. as long as it’s comfortable and feels like “home.”

4.If money were no object what 3 impractical features would you want your home to include?

impractical? hmmm. maybe a mini-waterfall or something, since trickling water is supposed to be soothing. i’d hate to have to clean it, though, of mold and stuff. maybe a playground on the lanai for the pets. and the last thing…hmmm…scratch-n-sniff wallpaper.

5.What’s your least favourite household chore to do?

cleaning. bleah.

Friday5: So Why Don’t You Slide?

  1. Where is the nearest playground slide?
  2. there is a slide in the park nearby.

  3. What’s something you recently let slide?
  4. one of my kids who hasn’t been bringing her things to school. they lost their house in a fire, so i’ve been letting her go in not doing her work or turning in anything.

  5. Who recently let slide something you did?
  6. hmmm. not sure. maybe our clerk, who didn’t say anything about the money i turned in late because i was waiting for the above student to turn in field trip money before deciding to just pay for it myself! but then my indecision caused me to turn in the money late :(

  7. Where is the nearest water slide?
  8. about a mile or two from where i live.

  9. When did you last slide down a pole, a rope, or an embankment?
  10. i don’t think i’ve done any of those, thank goodness!

ww

from wet wednesday.

1. is there someone that you work with that you have a ‘crush’ on … or simply makes you drool?

no, unfortunately. i had, though. when i was working at the university, the guy who worked across the office i was in was such a hunk, i’d blush if he even looked my way. extremely awkward!

2. at your job, is sexual banter the norm, or are all bawdy jokes strictly off-limits?

depends. you have some that are, and some that aren’t. sometimes you get the real raunchy ones on your grade level and then the whole year you have to hear that, and then some years, it’s just all polite. it’s not off-limits; it’s just considerate, i guess.

3. have you ever “dipped your pen into the company inkwell,” or have you learned …

sorry, deleted the rest of the quote/question. no i haven’t. though i may have thought about it a few times…never. i would feel kinda funny about that.
