Chinese Zodiac - Pig

Personality

Occupying the last position in the Chinese Zodiac, the 12th, the Pig symbolizes such character traits as diligence, compassion, and generosity. Pigs enjoy life and because they are entertaining, others enjoy their company. Pigs are giving souls and reap much enjoyment when they’re helping others, but sometimes they give too much. Honesty is what Pigs give and it’s what they expect to receive in return. (i don’t agree with this)

Pigs seek peace and will do what is necessary to maintain it. This trait, while admirable, sometimes makes it easy for others to take advantage of Pigs. Pigs are always doing for others, helping anyway they can, but rarely will they ask others for help. This can overwhelm and stress them, but Pigs don’t mind. (the seeking peace part is true)

When it comes to money, Pigs enjoy spending more than saving. They gravitate towards name brand items. Thriftiness happens only occasionally, but Pigs do know how to find great deals. (no! no name brands for me. not true.)

Health

Always seeking fun, Pigs often indulge more than they should. Excessive eating, drinking and smoking can cause sickness. Pigs aren’t very active and, combined with their excessive behaviors, cause them to gain weight. Pigs are social and being alone makes them unhappy. Pigs would benefit from adopting a healthier lifestyle. (i’m not social. but yes, i could be healthier.)

Career

Pigs enjoy helping at work and can always be counted on. They enjoy opportunities that allow them to express their creativity. Pigs are detail-oriented, a trait admired by management. Pigs aren’t afraid to take on responsibility. Some good career choices for Pigs include: entertainer, caterer, doctor, veterinarian, or interior decorator. They’d do well in retail or hospitality. (this just cracks me up!)

Relationships

Supportive and giving, Pigs make great partners. They’re affectionate and sexual and prefer staying home to going out. They enjoy what they have, especially their home and family. Once they find the right partner, they’re typically committed for the long-term. (true, i guess. i don’t know that i’m a great partner, if i tend to drive them away from me, but…)

Metal Pigs – Years 1911 and 1971

Metal Pigs have a tough exterior, and this strength can be seen in all areas of life. They work diligently and love with all they have. They’re outspoken and trust others right away. (hmmm…not true)

Friday5: Up All Night

Which open-all-night establishment has been a lifesaver for you?

walmart. i’ve gone there many times before school has started to get things, even though it’s in the opposite direction of where i need to go. safeway, too, especially with food items. when i was pregnant, zippys was visited many times at like 3, 4am in the morning, when i was craving tomatoey goodness.

What open-all-night establishment is closest to where you live?

that would be safeway. oh, actually, jack in the box is closer than safeway is.

What nonexistent open-all-night establishment could you really use in your life?

i could use a relaxation spa thingie. i’ve never been to one, and probably wouldn’t even if one did exist… :P but it’s nice to think about.

Which open-all-night establishment in your town is least likely ever to see your patronage in the wee hours of the morning?

bars and stuff.

Have you ever purchased anything advertised on television late, late at night?

oh, all the time :P sadly enough!

Friday5: CYA L8R

What was the last important thing you were late for?

hmmm…it’s been a while. i’ve been late for minor things, like the start of my nephew’s baseball game, but nothing really, really important.

What was the last important thing you were late with?

hmmm…bills were paid on time this month…report cards finished with more than enough time…did all my reading and assignments…i can’t think of anything? oh, i was a day late w/ my dad’s gift, but i was waiting until the weekend since we’re all so busy (”tired!”) during the work week.

What (or who!) is the most frequent cause of your lateness?

my son. he can be SO slow. he drags his feet and i swear sometimes he does that on purpose.

Which of your close friends or relatives can you expect almost always to be inconveniently late?

my cousin is ALWAYS late. it’s gotten to the point where we tell her to be somewhere at 5, even though we tell everyone else to be there at 6, and she still comes late!

What’s most likely to cause you to stay up too late before bed?

this darn computer. :P

eta: heh, just realized i was late with this ;)

Friday5: Life’s a Mystery

The Travis McGee series of mystery novels by John D. MacDonald is famous for always including a color in its titles, such as The Dreadful Lemon Sky, The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper, and The Empty Copper Sea. What two or three similar titles could you give to events in your life in the past week?

i am soooo uncreative. hmmm. the puce conundrum. the tacky lime shirt.

The Kinsey Millhone series of mystery novels by Sue Grafton is famous for its alphabetical titles, such as A is for Alibi, K is for Killer, and M is for Malice. What two or three similar titles could you give to recent episodes at your workplace or school?

m is for morale. t is for test.

Margaret Truman’s murder mysteries are known for being set in and around Washington, D.C. with such titles as Murder at the Pentagon, Murder at the Kennedy Center, and Murder on Capitol Hill. What are two or three similar titles you could give to episodes of great inconvenience to you around your hometown?

traffic on kamokila. construction near the freeway.

Susan Conant’s Dog Lover Mysteries often contain dog-related puns, such as A New Leash on Death, Paws Before Dying, and Dead and Doggone. If a series of books were to be written about your favorite hobby, what might some of the punny titles be?

knit wit (though i admit, i think there’s already a book called that, if not a blog. shucks, my only creative one). mud puddles.

The Three Investigators series of juvenile mysteries often explores baffling phenomena that turn out to have perfectly reasonable explanations, such as The Mystery of the Invisible Dog, the Mystery of the Headless Horse, and the Secret of the Haunted Mirror. What would be a couple of similar titles you could give for the last few things that mysteriously disappeared from your possession?

the case of the missing card. the mystery of the fallen sign.

ugh. that was quite a bunch of horrible answers! i need to keep thinking about this one.

saw this here.

Instructions:

The Band Meme

You are about to have your own band’s CD cover. Follow these directions to the letter. It’s fun and requires no thought at all. Go to……

1: Wikipedia Random The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2: Go to Random Quotations page. The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3: Go to Flickr. The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4: Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post. Also, pass it along on your own blog, because it’s more amusing that way.

heehee, here’s my band landflug’s album cover!

Sweetie or Honey: i’m called “sweetie” a lot, but i don’t know why. i’m not. heehee one of my exbfs used to call me “honeycakes” which would crack me up. i think it was a british thing, but it just sounded so funny. i guess if i had to choose, it’d be sweetie. i don’t want random people calling me “honey.”
Darling or Hun: hmmm, either is nice, but unlike not wanting random people calling me “honey”, i think i’d rather random people say “hun” than “darling.”

you might be a teacher if…

this email has been making its rounds. i received it earlier, and again today, as we prepare for the kids to come back. [my comments are italicized.]

Jeff Foxworthy’s Take on Teachers

HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TEACHER?

1. You can hear 25 voices behind you and know exactly which one belongs to the child out of line.

i can. then when i do turn around to look at them, they have stunned expressions on their faces like how did you know?!?!

2. You get a secret thrill out of laminating something.

not as much anymore, though i did when i was first starting out! i thought laminating was so cool. i guess i’m over it now! heeheehee. but the poster-maker? now, that’s something to marvel at.

3. You walk into a store and hear the words “It’s Ms/Mr. ______” and know you have been spotted.

i *always* freeze as soon as i hear “kumu…” i don’t even have to hear what follows that, i just freeze and know that i’ve been spotted. then i turn with a plastic smile and wave and then scoot away all embarrassed. especially when it’s somewhere i don’t think they’d even be, like when i’m in town or something, and i’m just walking down the street and then there’s someone sticking their head out of the window of a passing car, shouting my name and waving frantically. then as soon as i see them in school next, it’s like “i SAW you!” and they giggle like it was the funniest thing in the world. eesh!

4. You have 25 people that accidentally call you Mom/Dad at one time or another.

yes. well i’ve never been called dad, but i get the “mom” thing all the time. i was even called “gramma” once! *glare*

5. You can eat a multi-course meal in under fifteen minutes.

i probably could. i’ve never tried (who has the time to eat?!) but i probably could, knowing that i have to get something down before the kiddies return.

6. You’ve trained yourself to go to the bathroom at two distinct times of the day: lunch and recess.

sadly, our lunch and recess is combined, so my two times of the day i get to go to the bathroom is lunch/recess and after school. yup.

7. You start saving other people’s trash, because most likely, you can use that toilet paper tube or plastic butter tub for something in the classroom.

yes, we actually have a “tool box” for science that is a collection of all these types of things–toilet paper tubes, butter tubs, egg cartons, etc. kids come up with some pretty good things though! i always wonder though if their parents make them throw their projects away when they come home with them! heehee

8. You believe the teachers’ lounge should be equipped with a margarita machine.

well, i don’t drink, so i wouldn’t benefit from a magarita machine. but it would be nice to even *have* a teacher’s lounge. we need to get that first. then maybe adding a softserve ice cream machine…yummm…

9. You want to slap the next person who says “Must be nice to work 7 to 3 and have summers off.”

tell me about it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

10. You believe chocolate is a food group.

well, no. but ice cream is ;)

11. You can tell if it’s a full moon without ever looking outside.

yep.

12. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if anyone says, “Boy, the kids sure are mellow today.”

well, my kids are usually very mellow, but when it’s said first thing in the morning…yup. something’s gonna happen. and if someone mentions how polite my children are, that means we’re going to get interrupted before that person is even done saying that. and i do glare at anyone who tells me “wow, your kids get along so great!” because that means a fight will erupt in 3…2…1…

13. You feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior when you are out in public.

heeheeheehee. sadly, yes. but i control that urge, unless what the child is doing is very dangerous and parent seems oblivious.

14. You believe in aerial spraying of Ritalin.

well…i don’t know. poor kids turn so droopy. but some days…

15. You think caffeine should be available in intravenous form.

not really a caffeine person, but i know others who wish this.

16. You spend more money on school stuff than you do on your own children.

oh gosh, break my heart just a little bit more, why don’t you? yes, a million times yes. i feel sooo guilty because i always buy stuff for my class and my son gets nothing. and he’ll light up when he sees me looking at something and he’ll comment about how he’d like to have that or what he could do with it, and i always go, “no, it’s for my class.” and the look on his face as his whole expression just drops…*sigh* even when i bake something, he’ll go, “ooo smells good, can i have?” then i look at him, and he stops and goes, “oh. it’s for your class.” *sigh* bad mommy.

17. You can’t pass the school supply aisle without getting at least five items!

yes. or even walmart, in general, without five things strictly for my class!

18. You ask your friends if the left hand turn he just made was a “good choice or a bad choice.”

heeheehee i’m not that bad, i think. but i do this to my son all the time.

19. You find true beauty in a can full of perfectly sharpened pencils.

a year ago, i wouldn’t have agreed…but just this year for some reason, i do this! i’ll sharpen all the pencils in the community pencil cup and just stare at it admiringly afterwards. such beauty in the way the pencils fall in the cup, with the various tips pointing this way and that, and the slight shave curling out of one pencil, and all the colors and lines…lovely.

20. You are secretly addicted to hand sanitizer.

heeheehee, they are wonderful, but i’m not as addicted as most are… what i *am* addicted to, and it’s not so much really the kids, but just the fact that i like to feel girly, is those bath&bodyworks little lotion bottles. there’s a couple of teachers who always have a stock in their bags, and just before meetings or something, they’ll pass them around and everyone takes a squirt and mmmmm smells soooooooo nice and my hands feel so soft and smell so lovely and it’s just heavenly and just a small little luxury in an otherwise hectic day, and something that i look forward to so i have something else to pay attention to during the meetings. :P

and finally,

21. You understand instantaneously why a child behaves a certain way after meeting his or her parents.

heeheeeheeheehee!

Friday5: Conditions Critical

Under what conditions can you have the perfect nap?

if it’s nice and cool, and quiet, and there’s nothing really pressing that i have to do, i can have a perfect nap. i just need to find the time.

Under what conditions can you let most of your guard down?

hmm i’m not sure i can ever let my guard down. well, maybe just relaxing with my sisters, talking about the good ol’ days. otherwise, i’m pretty much always with the guard up.

Under what conditions can you do your best writing?

hmmm the conditions don’t really matter, i just need to be *inspired*. i can write anywhere if the mood strikes me. but i need to have something to write about, otherwise i can’t.

Under what conditions would you give away everything you own?

sometimes i almost wish that, so i can reduce clutter. i’d definitely give away everything i own if i knew it would save a member of my family, especially my mom or my son. i don’t need all my stuff–i need THEM.

Under what conditions would you kiss a stranger?

i’ve kissed many a stranger, but all with the same condition–it was a kiss hello or goodbye. nothing passionate or intimate or anything. just a casual greeting.

Friday5: Wrap-Ups

In 2007, who most made you laugh?

in real life? or like on tv? i crack up the most at whose line? in real life, hmm. i guess maybe my son. he’s unintentionally funny, though. every time i tell him he’s so funny he denies it.

In 2007, who most inspired you?

ummmm…this is hard. there’s a few, and in different ways have they given inspiration.

In 2007, who taught you the most?

my kids. i am constantly learning from them.

In 2007, who encouraged you the most?

i’m such a complainer that anyone who ever listens to me tends to have to be encouraging. *blush*

What did you do in 2007 that will have the most positive effect on your 2008?

errr ummm i had to get myself into gear at the ending of last year when i was approached to present something i had no idea about, so i thought, well, i need to brush up on my stuff so i know what i’m talking about. so i read a lot and looked up research and read some more … and i think it will really help me this semester. at least i hope it does. can’t all be for nothing, something must’ve sunk in, huh? ;)

Friday5: Catching Up

yikes, how long did i forget to do these again? i think i was just so burnt out from nablopomo!

Friday5 for December 28: Alphabet Soup

An acronym is an abbreviation formed with the initials (or pieces) of a longer phrase, such as USA (for United States of America) or LASER (for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation).

What is an acronym specific to your workplace or profession? (students who don’t work: What is an acronym specific to your campus or major?)

doe. and we’re actually known for our love of acronyms–nclb, hcps, isped, esis, fuba, iep, lep/fep/nep, ppt, ea, sasa…we’ve got a ton of them.

What is an acronym you use a lot in your personal life?

hmm i don’t know that i use any? i mean aside from scuba and laser…maybe once in a while, i’ll use “tmi” but i don’t use it a lot.

Internet acronyms are unavoidable, but what’s one you particularly despise, and what’s one you particularly like?

gosh i hate hate HATE “LOL”. i just don’t like it. what’s wrong with just typing out what you are saying? like “ha” or “hee” or “ho” or whatever? “lol”…ick. one that i like? hmmm. maybe ones i use and are probably overused–”brb” or “bbl”. brb almost sounds like the words it’s shortening, if the person were mumbling it and walking away from you at the same time. brb.

What acronym could you create right now for some regular annoyance in your life?

pasr. :D

What would be a memorable or appetizing acronym for your most recent meal? (if your most recent meal was a BLT or SOS or some similarly acronymed food, please choose the next-most recent meal, smart alecks!)

umm. i just had an orange. o? heeheehee j.o. :D

Friday 5 for December 21: Here in My Car I Feel Safest of All

If money were no concern and LOOKS the only consideration, what car would you get yourself? (pictures for questions like this are always nice!)

i am so not a car person. i don’t know. as long as it’s not boxy-looking…i don’t care for those types of cars. anything else is fine with me.

If money were no concern and YOUR LIFESTYLE the only consideration, what car would you get yourself?

just something really low maintenance and reliable. again, i know nothing about cars. so i don’t want a car that’s going to be expensive to upkeep or cause a lot of problems that i don’t know how to fix. something simple and easygoing is all i want.

What is the best thing about your current car? If you do not own a car, what is the best thing about the car you most often ride in?

i like that it runs. seriously. cars are expensive! i’m just glad mine works.

If cars could be skinned the way cell phones, laptop computers, and iPods can, what would be a really cool skin for your car?

ohhh i looooove skins. i got skins on almost anything i can get skinned (except this laptop, i’d feel guilty covering over the apple). if i could get a skin for my car? hmmm…maybe a turtle? like that cute one on nemo? squirt or something? or something with dolphins, maybe like a wyland painting that’s on one of those buildings, so my car can blend in :)

If you were going to decorate a friend’s car with a custom-made skin as a practical joke, whose car would you skin and what would it be?

i really don’t know. i’d get my sister a skin with her dogs on it, but it wouldn’t be as a practical joke. i guess my mind doesn’t really work that way?!?!

Friday 5 for December 14: Sing of Happy

What’s your favorite song about growing up?

hmmm. that cat in the cradle song is kinda sad, but it’s what i think of when you say “growing up”.

What’s your favorite song about cars or driving?

hmm i can only think of “fast car” right now — “remember when we were driving / driving in your car / speeding so fast, felt like i was drunk / city lights lay out before us / and your arm felt niced wrapped ’round my shoulder / and i had a feeling like i belonged / i had a feeling that i could be someone…” i love the guitar on that. other than that, i can only think of “shake it up” by the cars. :P oh! wait, didn’t they have a song called “drive”? “who’s gonna take you home?”

What’s your favorite song whose title is a person’s name?

kauanoeanuhea :)

What’s your favorite get-up-and-dance song?

i have a lot! there’s quite a few out there where i just can’t sit still when i hear it–i have to get up and start dancing.

What’s your favorite novelty song?

what does this mean?

Friday 5 for December 7: Used to Be My Playground

What playground game do you remember most fondly?

we always played house on the playground ;) the underneath part of the slide would be our house and we’d always try to “capture” a guy to be our husband, but of course, just ended up irritating the boys who wanted to climb and play and not be a husband. *sigh* some things don’t change, huh?

What playground game did you just hate?

i hated sham battle. i would purposely try to get hit so i could get out of there and sit on the side.

Which playground apparatus did you most enjoy?

i liked those balance beam thingies. especially if they were swervy like snakes. those were fun.

Which playground apparatus did you generally avoid or not care much for?

i had no arm strength to do the monkey bars so i stayed away from those. i also had no arm strength to pull myself up on those jungle gyms so they were just another “house” we could have when playing house, but i never climbed all over it like my monkey of a sister could.

What playground game might be really fun if grownups played it with adult rules?

heh.
