i’m not a sweaty person. i rarely sweat. but the other night i woke up all sweaty. turned out i had a fever.

just a small get-together at my grandma’s. yes, i spent time, and there are a few people i’d rather not be around, but eh. didn’t let it bother me.

i guess my mom being in the hospital–that was horrible. all my break-ups didn’t come close to the pain i felt when i thought i was losing my mom. so when she really does go…i honestly don’t know how i’m going to cope.

i wouldn’t know what to say. i’d be like that with someone not famous, too, though.

sounds corny, but my ex gave me the gift of life. that was totally awesome, and all he got in return was me.

yes. i wait until i get home, usually, even if it gives me the most awful stomach pains.

yes, that happens a lot now that my little ones are so grown up, that i don’t recognize them any more. i feel bad because they’re so excited and then they have to stop and explain who they are.

yes, i check it more on the weekends than i do on the weekdays. i usually read through all the posts, comment/like a few, and then go straight to my games.

usually i have a reason–illness was the past one, and before that it was because my son was ill. there are times that i feel like it, if i feel too stressed and think i need a break–but that’s still a reason.

The 2011 Year End Meme

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
planned a whole trip by myself! i’ve always thought about it, but never did it, or it was always planned for me.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
i didn’t make a resolution, but for this year, i’m going to try to be more active.

3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
i spent it as i always do–home alone with the animals. i thought this year would be better because of the ban, but, no. someone was setting off LOUD ones every couple of minutes that scared the poor animals. geez. and this year it felt a bit odd because the past few years my “company” was an IM buddy but he doesn’t talk to me any more so it kinda felt a bit lonely, too. aww.

4. Did anyone close to you give birth?
a colleague of mine did, at the beginning of the year.

5. Did anyone close to you die?
no, thank goodness.

6. What countries did you visit?
i didn’t visit any.

7. What would you like to have in 2012 that you didn’t have in 2011?

hmm. i really don’t know. i guess the beginning of june was pretty nice, as i spent it on vacation. it was nice to relax just a little bit, before the summer of work.

cleaning out my classroom. i got rid of a LOT of junk.

not taking care of myself.

11. Did you suffer illness or injury?
yes. well, i don’t know how much it is an “illness” when they don’t know what’s going on with you and suggest that it’s all in your head. but it was a scary time, and i didn’t think i would make it.

i had to get a loan to help pay off bills since i didn’t get the incentive pay we were promised, and i had a little leftover, so i treated myself to the 4s. yes. we have a lot of wonderful conversations together, siri and i.

i’ll have to get sappy and say my kid’s. he’s been very helpful, both at home and at work, knowing that i can’t do or lift certain things, so he’ll do it for me, even if done begrudgingly. he’s also done well in school, scored in the top percentiles on national tests, and even tried out for the volleyball team, much to my surprise. i’m just dreading that in a couple of years, this may all head downwards…i already see that teen quality coming out. eeks!

the general public.

i really didn’t watch that much tv this year. oh, i guess it would be glee, but i didn’t care for it much in this current season. they don’t do as many songs as they did before, and i guess i only really watched it for the songs. the characters didn’t hold my interest very much.

well, i know it’s not ranked on any lists or anything, but the one that really made me stop and think and then redo my whole thing this year was The Cafe Book. it’s not “best” as in captivating and mind-blowing, but it’s the best in getting me to reflect and change some things up, hopefully for the better.

28. What was your greatest musical discovery?
well, i don’t know if it’s the “greatest,” and i wouldn’t call it a “discovery,” and this probably sounds very teenaged fangirl-ish, but, because of glee, i looked up darren criss and found his old videos of songs he did and i was impressed. just love that acoustic guitar! i also really got into a cappella singing genre, again, because of glee. i think the harmonies and stuff remind me of high school, in a way, so that might have influenced my ear.

i really didn’t see any films this year, save for kung fu panda 2.

it was a typical saturday routine, except that i got taken out to dinner. and i hit the age i thought i would never live to see. i am officially old.

comfortable. but girly.

i’d have to say i have become quite smitten with mr. darren criss.

my family, i guess. when things go crazy, i can always turn to them.

politics in general stir me. ugh. i guess one that stirred the most was one that affected me the most–our governor promised no more furloughs if elected. well, he was elected, and forced a contract on us that has, guess what? furloughs. but they’re not called that. they’re called “department-directed leave without pay.” hey, a rose is a rose is a rose. or maybe it’s a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet? or how we’d use to say when we were little, “same smell.” and, in this case, the smell was putrid and sneaky. i know sneaky doesn’t have a smell, but if it did, it would smell like this. don’t say something to get elected and then renege, or well, finding some loophole or way around what you said by renaming it. bah. it’s still the same. and there i go, again, which is why i always try to avoid politics! grr.

38. Who did you miss?
once in a while, when i flick through my phone’s contacts or scroll through my emails looking for a certain subject, i’ll see the name of my friend who passed away last year. well, 2010. oh my gosh 2010 isn’t even last year any more. but i’ll see her name and feel a twinge of sadness, wishing i could once again call her and hear her voice, or email her and get her hilarious responses.

39. Who was the best new person you met?
one of my new colleagues has a sort of can-do quality that i admire. she swears a bit more than i’m comfortable with, and sometimes i can’t tell if she’s being sarcastic or sincere, but she would be the “best” new person i’ve met.

you really don’t get a second chance in life.

i guess there were some that were lesser than the one i’m thinking of, but it’s in my head because of my rant above–not getting our incentive pay. because i *really* counted on that before planning my trip, and to go ahead and pay for everything, with the expectation of having that extra pay to help out–and then *not* getting that pay…argh. it really put me in a bind. and i don’t like being binded up.

too much. oh, don’t get me started again.

well, i know it didn’t come out in 2011, but i only discovered it earlier this year (ack! last year!). after wrinkling my nose up at my son trying to show me the game angry birds all last year (ack! the year before!) and pondering just how it could be the #1 game in the app store week after week, i got hooked. i became obsessed. i remember my dad showing us his new ipad, and my son playing angry birds on it, and i was thinking how can flinging yourself into a building to save your eggs be productive? you’re on a suicide mission! how will that help the eggs? they get their eggs back, but they’re *dead*? what’s the purpose? my son was all he had been playing it for a while, and just assured me it was fun. then i went into the hospital, and while there, to pass the time, i thought i’d try it, since not only my son was hooked, but my dad, my niece, my sister–what’s the harm, right? well, i got so darn obsessed with the game. i had to get 3 stars on each one. i had to get all the golden eggs. i had to get all the feathers. man! i took a break once school started up again, but just recently, during the break, i got into it again, partly because when i got my new phone, the data didn’t transfer, and i had to start ALL OVER AGAIN. talk about frustrating! darn birds.

i also like where’s my water. that’s a cute game. and i had to try it once i saw it knocked angry birds out of the #1 position one week!

i don’t know. i guess because i just answered an app question, i’m thinking steve job’s death. but i know that can’t have been the top news. there were also some things that happened locally that affected me, but again, i don’t think anyone else would look at it as the “top” new story. i seem to be using a lot of “” huh?
…okay, i had to cheat and look at some past new stories. i think one of the top ones was the tsunami and earthquake that hit japan. that just seems like so long ago, i forgot it was 2011. but i remember the images on tv of the tsunami sweeping over the land. gosh. and then all the problems with the nuclear stations and whatnot. okay, maybe i’ll have to change a couple of my answers about a date etched in my memory. although…it wasn’t really etched that far, as i didn’t remember it, did i?

58. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2011, what would you change?
well…i can think of something, but i don’t know…i would’ve done it, anyway, i think. but it would’ve saved me months of worry/damage.

just trying to be more active–not only physically, but getting out more and doing community things.

i never thought i’d drive up haleakalā, after once before swearing i would never do it again. but i did.

1. Why did you sign up for writing your blog?
i’ve always loved to write. when i came by chance to hawaiistories and read about how he was looking for writers who wanted to join the community, i just had to sign up, even if i wasn’t quite sure what it was all about. but it’s a way for me to express myself through writing, since that’s usually the only way i *do* express myself. and it was just a “new” thing that i wanted to try.

2. Why did you choose your blog’s name? What does it mean?
my first blog i had no idea what i was doing so the webmaster chose the name for me. he just combined my nickname with the word blog, and voila!

what a strangely worded question. i have quite a few–let’s see, if i count the xanga and livejournal accounts i had even before hawaiistories, i have had 11! wow. i don’t know if i still even know the passwords to my xanga and livejournal, and my hawaiistories one is now gone, so i have 8 that i still check on, of which, 4 i really keep up with.

that i’m needy. i don’t feel like writing if i don’t feel anyone is reading.

hawaiistories was pretty cool but it seems abandoned. i don’t know many other communities.

my philosophy? i don’t know. simple (1 column), but with a personal touch (my own picture).

i don’t quite understand the question. but i guess one could see that i like to talk about myself (answering all these questions about myself rather than writing about actual topics). a lot of my answers talk about music or my disdain for people, especially at work. oh, also that i don’t watch a lot of tv or movies. and that i’m weird.

i don’t think so.

no. my stats line is pretty static.

hmm. i guess my whole hula experience. at least i don’t think i have. i also haven’t posted a bit about my relationships, save one or two rants here or there, but i guess i’m not glad i went through it.

none. “met,” to me, means that you actually have a conversation with and such. not just a “hi” walking by type of thing, which i have done with a couple people. though i don’t know that they’d consider themselves “blog friends.”

i don’t watch american idol or x-factor so i don’t know why i wouldn’t save simon cowell. don’t really know much about the kardashians, either, except the father was a lawyer for someone whom i definitely wouldn’t give the parachute to. i’m tired of reading of both sheen & gibson, so it’d be a toss-up for me. probably sheen, because i think i would’ve wanted emilio to become more famous than his brother.

i don’t know.

wow, interesting. i don’t know. i loved to read a lot of mysteries, which may have definitely shaped the way i think, though that was more during the teenage years. my writing at that time became more into trying to do riddles and puzzles within the text of the story. i still like a good puzzle, but that may not have anything to do with what i read. i wonder if my mom read me a lot of poems or dr. seuss type books because i love the lyricalness of words put together. maybe i was influenced by that as a young child.

With the holidays staring us straight in the face here in the United States of America, it’s difficult to know whether to be happy, depressed, thankful, or just stay in denial. After all, while we eat our dressed turkeys with dripping gravy and biscuits, people are still homeless, families go to bed hungry, and millions of others have no work or prospects of work in this country. And yet, no one canceled Thanksgiving. Looking at the state of our world, sometimes I wonder why. I am thankful, nonetheless, for friends and family near and far. I am thankful for YOU.

hmm. i think i would love to be a children’s author. but i don’t think i could handle all the months of revising. i get stick of stuff after a while, and just a tad bit defiant. but to be able to write and illustrate and take the time out to create something…i would love that. as for the path to take…i don’t know. i’ve written stuff but i don’t have the confidence to believe it’s good enough to send in to get published. so i guess i’m not doing anything to further my path to my dream career.

1. One of my favorite TV shows recently changed the actors who played two characters. Have you ever been bothered by a TV show or movie series changing actors who play a character you love?

YES. i couldn’t stand it when they changed darrin on bewitched. they also changed becky on roseanne, and i couldn’t stand the new becky, even so much to carry the hate over to scrubs. i’m sure there were others but those were the two that came into mind. i know when they introduced becky #2, they made an allusion to bewitched. didn’t like it at ALL.

2. A coworker recently shared a link to a blog listing the “five things you should know before dating a journalist.” As a journalist, I can honestly say the writer was spot-on. What are some things people should know before spending time with you?

that i really do just like to listen. don’t pressure me into telling you stories, just let me listen. also, and maybe it’s because of that, i’m incredibly boring. so spending time with me means you probably have to occupy yourself.

3. What is something you often do without realizing that you’re doing it?

sing. bite my lip. tap my foot. scrunch my face up.

4. Who has the capacity to make you angrier than anyone else in your life, and what in particular does he or she do to make you so angry?

hmm. i really don’t know. i’m not an angry sort of person. there are a couple of kids who try my patience, but no one really to make me so angry…

wow. it would be somewhere overlooking the ocean, high enough to not get swept away from a tidal wave, but on very sturdy ground so it doesn’t slip into the water at the slightest rumble. it would be very simple, actually. just a single floor, but spacious enough to escape the others and not feel like they’re bothering you. i think i would like it of stone, so it’d be cooler. oh, and i’d like a maid service, too.

that there has to be something else out there. we can’t be the only things in this whole humongous universe.

7. I used to talk in my sleep. In fact, I could carry on a conversation with someone when I was fully asleep, and my mom used this fact when I was a teenager to find out if I did anything wrong and was hiding it from my parents. If you were talking your sleep tonight, what do you think you would say?

i don’t know if i talk in my sleep, but i do know my niece and my son do. they’re just weird, random things, and when they wake up and you question them about it, they have no idea what they said, which i think is kinda neat, in a weird way. i’ve never tried to get information out of them though! maybe i should. but i would probably say something work-related, since that’s all that’s ever on my mind.

my sister and my niece are so into this, so yes, i knew about the midnight showings–it’s all they’ve talked about for weeks. they’ve already seen the movie 3 times since it’s midnight debut three nights ago. me, i just don’t get the hype. and it’s not only for that movie, but for any movie. i’ve never wanted to go to a midnight showing for any movie, not even for pokemon. which i doubt they had one…but still. i guess i’m not that much into movies.

On Tuesday, tigers, lions and bears were let loose in Zanesville, Ohio, by their owner before he committed suicide, leading to a hunt in which 49 of the animals, including 18 endangered Bengal tigers, were killed. wow. i didn’t hear about this. they killed them? sheesh. i would freak out if i saw that sign, after looking it up to make sure it was true.

i try to really think through what i post and think of consequences of it going out into public. which is probably why i hardly posted! heh. but i try to be sensitive to others, unlike a few i know. but even if i DID post something that i regretted later on…i know how to delete, unlike a few others i know, too.

IT CAME BACK?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! oh man oh man when is it?? although the songs they choose now i probably have no idea what they are, anyway. but i LOVE LOVE LOVE getting all the background info on these sorts of things. i even imagined a pop-up movie, once. like, wouldn’t it be cool to be getting all these behind-the-scenes info of what went on in the scene? i would LOVE that. i loved that they did that to LOST replays. thought not really “pop-up” it was more scroll along the bottom of the screen. i loved the pop-ups that would point to things on the screen that you probably wouldn’t have noticed before. i’m dense in that way, not seeing all those stuff–i need it pointed out to me. i would LOVE to watch more movies, if it had pop-up info. man! pop-up video again! woohoo! i need to find it. it was always so interesting, even if i didn’t care for the song. and so hilarious! man! well, to answer the question, any one would be fine with me. i guess i would like it more centered on 80s and 90s music, since that’s what i’m more familiar with. but any musician is fine with me. WOW! i’m so excited.

17. If you stumbled across someone’s personal written journal that was accidentally left in a public place, would you read any of the content?

i might glance at the open page. but i wouldn’t go reading through it.

18. What is the title of a self-help book that you’d never want to see on a store bookshelf?

“how to act like a **** to get what you want.” although i suspect a lot of people wouldn’t even *need* that book.

19. Many media outlets have been asking this question a lot this week… Which Halloween costume do you think will be overdone this year?

well, it’s after halloween…and i honestly still don’t know. i wasn’t really out and about to see what was out there. i heard there was a spike in j crews black turtlenecks, as a lot of people were going to be steve jobs, but i don’t know…i think there would be more vampires and stuff.

20. Should a marriage license have a renewal date or expiration date, like a driver’s license?

i think they should do away with marriage licenses for good. no one respects them, anyway. just let people who want to be together be together.

Saturday 9: The Last DJ

1. Who was [your] favorite DJ and what radio station did you listen to as a kid?
i listened to 93FMQ and I-94 a lot when i was a teen. i especially would like those quizzes they had where they gave you a part of a lyric and you had to complete it. now those were games. not like today where all you have to do is be the 9th caller. what’s the fun in that? i always knew the answers but never got in. and i would get so mad when people would call and be totally guessing. i’m like I KNOW THAT ANSWER!!! PICK UP WHEN I CALL!!! ah, well. it was fun. i remember Michael Qseng as the dj. i don’t know that he’s my *favorite* but i just remember his voice a lot. i also remember when he went crazy and played “eat it” so many times in a row. i also remember listening to rory wild–in fact i listened to his morning show well into adulthood, until i got so irritated with gregg hammer that i couldn’t bear to listen to the morning show any more. the other day though i was flipping through the channels and heard junior’s voice instead so i stopped and listened and held my breath until it was confirmed that yes, gregg was not there. woohoo! then i got to listen to the show again, the first time in a while. it was nice! i’ll have to turn it off though once gregg comes back. bleah.

2. What has been the weirdest thing you have worn in public?
that wasn’t for halloween or spirit week or something? hmm. i had this really pretty bathing suit that i used to wear under a blazer when i went to work. not too weird, but not expected in a professional working place. no one could tell it was a bathing suit unless they looked closely and saw it was lycra or whatever it is that bathing suits are made out of, and no one really got that close unless they were creepy.

3. What was the best part of last weekend?
it was my mom’s birthday so we spent the whole day with her and had a nice dinner at a restaurant i don’t think i would be able to afford normally.

4. What was the most effective punishment for you as a kid?
just my parents’ disappointed looks. that’s all. i’ve been hit, spanked, kicked, pinched…but nothing made more of an impact on me than knowing that i disappointed them.

5. Would you lie to your significant other to not hurt their feelings?
yes.

6. We’re taking you order for breakfast. What would you like?
steak, please. side order of home-fried potatoes.

7. Do you celebrate Halloween? If yes, do tell. If no, why not?
i dress up–that’s about as much as i celebrate. i don’t go around trick-or-treating, nor do i pass out candy. it’s more for school that i dress up, i guess.

8. Do you hand out candy to the neighborhood kids?
no.

2) How do you keep track of all your great ideas on the fly? Do you always have things available to jog them down? Do you make up landmarks or symbolize them to help you remember?

no, i don’t do any of those things. i just usually remember them. well, *usually*, some 10 years ago. now it’s all a fog. but i still don’t write anything down. that’s just more clutter that i don’t need. but maybe if i start getting even worse…i’ll have to. *shudder*

there are quite a few books that i’m happy i read–they really opened my eyes and changed my way of thinking, whether for better or worse, that’s not clear yet…

2) What’s the weirdest pregnancy craving you’ve heard of?
the typical pickles & ice cream thing. i’ve never heard of anyone craving that in real life.

3) What’s the most ridiculous reason you’ve ever heard for someone getting a divorce?
i don’t think divorce is all that ridiculous. but i suppose it’s all those who have 72-hour marriages.

4) One of Tuesday’s trending topics on Twitter was “What You Find In Ladies’ Handbags.” What are a couple things you never leave home without?
my phone and my keys.

5) What’s the oldest piece of clothing you have in your closet? Do you still wear it?
hmm. it’s probably some shirts back from when i was in college. my mom recently found one of my old high school t-shirts and gave it to my son since he goes to the same school now. i can’t believe it was still in good condition!

6) If you had your own radio show, how would you sign off or end the show? What would you say?
heehee i’m watching frasier reruns now before i go to bed and i just saw the one where niles took over frasier’s show for a day and i couldn’t help but giggle. but i guess that wasn’t about ending the show, but starting it. i can’t wish someone good mental health, though. i guess i would just say “bye!” i’m that unoriginal.

7) Have you ever picked up (or would you ever pick up) a hitchhiker?
no. although my fiance at the time wanted me to pick up someone when we were driving along an old battered road on another island, i refused. he said, “i can tell you’ve never had to hitchhike before in your life; otherwise, you would’ve picked him up.” i replied, “i can tell you’ve never been beaten up by someone you were only trying to help; otherwise you would understand why i didn’t pick him up.” shut him up for a while.

8) If you sent a “friend request” on Facebook to someone you knew very well, and they denied the request, what do you do?
