Friday5: catchingupagain

hmmmm…a super long survey i took (over 10000 words!) mysteriously disappeared…ugh. all that work for nothing. oh well. friday5 time!

Friday 5 for July 25: Metaphors Be With You

When you go to the beach, lake, or pool, are you more likely to lower yourself gradually into cold water or to take a determined plunge and get it over with?

jump right in! the longer you take outside, the more people see you in your bathing suit.

How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other tasks or ordeals?

oh i’m a gradual person. i stay back and observe before joining in. i know that frustrates a lot of people, though–you should hear some of the comments people have made to me!–but i hate looking pushy or anything. i guess i should worry about not looking like i don’t want to help.

When someone gives you flowers, are you more likely to let them turn completely brown and gross before throwing them out, or to discard them the moment they take on that sick-flower look?

well, it’s not gross! if they were given to you, that’s special. even if it’s all dried and brown. obviously, no, i don’t throw them out. i don’t think it’s gross, though. it’s a nice reminder that someone out there actually thinks about you.

How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other gifts, purchases, or relationships?

i don’t buy things that are gross. but as i cleaned out my class, i noticed that i don’t throw out gifts from kids years ago–not even their letters. i still have a lot of them. with relationships…i’ll be out of there if the other one cheats, but otherwise i think i’d stay in even if it gets gross. unless it’s abusive. i’m not sure, because everyone i’ve ever had a relationship with left me for someone else, but in other circumstances, i’m not one to give up easily. i’d like to think i’d hang in there until the very end.

Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case?

hmmm. i watched grease every single day when i was younger. although people are like, well she had to change to be slutty to get the guy, they forget danny was just as willing to change, as well. it’s not like he looked at her and went “oh, okay, you’re hot, now. now we can go out.” he liked her even when she was all not-his-usual-type. and because she wasn’t, he tried his best to acclimate himself into her world. he took track, earned a letter, and told his friends, “you know you mean a lot to me, it’s just that sandy does, too. and i’m gonna do anything i can to get her.” she just happened to do the change before he did. but i like that he was willing to do anything–give up friends, beliefs, attitudes, whatever–just to be with her. and she did that, as well. now, the ending is just cheesy, and not what i usually like in movies, but i like the way they give up things like their attitudes, their persona, just to be with the one they love by making the other feel comfortable. oh and i also love the songs and dancing, too :)

my other favorite is ghost, i guess because i love his devotion to her, even after he has passed on. there was still real love there. that was touching, and it always makes me cry. even that ending :/ well, at least he didn’t come back to life, or anything.

Friday 5 for July 18: Bad Food

What was the last meal that caused you to be ill?

i think it was a bertolli mix. i know it had roasted red and yellow peppers in it because that’s all i can see in my mind when i think of that horribly ill feeling.

Are there any places you never dine anymore because of a bad experience hours after the meal?

no. at least i don’t think so?

What’s your prescription for dealing with a food-caused illness?

sleep! and force myself to throw up to just get it all out of my system. well, not really *force* but you know, don’t suppress the feeling. just get it out. that’s what your body wants.

When friends tell you about coming down with food-caused illnesses, do you avoid the places they name, or do you figure it’s a dice-roll wherever you go?

my sister would totally avoid even anything that rhymes with it, she’s so paranoid about food-caused illnesses! seriously! i don’t really care. well, i think i won’t go immediately after, but i don’t think i won’t ever go again. especially if i like their food.

After numerous citations, a very, very popular restaurant that you’re quite fond of is shut down by the health department until it can get everything up to code. When the health department gives the restaurant the o.k. to reopen, do you go?

i think i would. again, my sister wouldn’t, but i don’t think i’d mind, if i really liked the food.

Friday 5 for July 11: Midsummer Nights’ Dreams

What are some recurring dreams you’ve had?

here. some of those are recurring, not all. but that pretty much sums up my recurring dreams.

What is the significance of dreams in telling you about yourself?

i used to be very into dream interpretation. i’m still curious whenever i wake up after a weird dream and wonder what’s going on, why i dreamt that, and what it’s trying to tell me.

How do you feel after you’ve had one of THOSE dreams?

scary dreams? i feel scared, heart pumping quickly, quite shaky, and hesitant to fall back asleep.

What was the last dream you remember?

i guess because i’ve been on facebook a lot lately looking at old pictures of classmates, i dreamt of being at a mall (where i just was on wednesday) and the guy i crushed on all throughout high school was trying to get my attention because i was wearing his sweatshirt? what the heck? i woke up just as he asked why i was wearing his sweatshirt, and i tried to go back to sleep right after to continue the dream, but i couldn’t. drats.

When did you last dream about something that later happened as you dreamt it?

i know i had a dream about a field trip, and later, did experience that same thing. good thing it wasn’t a scary thing! it was just normal. but i got weirded out after realizing i had *just* dreamt what had happened!

Friday 5 for July 4: Food Television

If a traveling food show were to visit your neighborhood, what are some unique, regional foods it would spotlight, and where would it go to get them?

well there’s a lot of filipinos here, so i guess they could to a filipino restaurant? i’m not familiar with filipino foods, so i can’t name any here.

On an American cable show, a celebrity chef surprises people by challenging them to a contest featuring their own specialties (he usually loses). If he challenged you to your specialty, what dish would you prepare? If he challenged someone you know, what would that dish be, and how might the competition turn out?

i’m glad he loses. *grumble* anyway. geez, i have no specialty. anything i make can be done better by anyone out there. i think he’d have a run for his money if he challenged my mom with her sushi making skills. everyone raves about her sushi. of course, he’d probably make it all funky and nonsushiish. for traditional people, they wouldn’t like that, and my mom would win! :)

What are your feelings about cooking shows on television?

i love most of them. some, i can’t stand. but i like watching most of them. i could leave it on the food network all day if not for some of their celebrities. *grumble*

What kitchen gadgets have you purchased because you saw someone using them on television?

i purchased that pushy thingie that alton brown uses for measuring stuff. it’s so cool.

You get to (or have to, depending on how you feel about it) host your own food show on television. What will it be called and what’s it about?

i think it would be something like rachael ray’s “$40 a day” where you go about and find cheap places to eat. of course, i don’t know many places, so it’d just be the same place over and over and over and over…

Friday 5 for June 27: Machinery

1. What was the last thing you purchased from a vending machine?

i got some funyuns for my son while waiting at the bus stop the other day.

2. What was the last thing you made copies of on a photocopier?

stuff for work. junk.

3. When did you last use a pay telephone?

when i got locked out of my house!!! did you know a pay telephone now costs 50cents? i didn’t have any money on me at all so i had to charge it, and the 5 minute call came out to like $10 or something. ripoff!

4. How often do you visit an automatic teller machine?

lately, almost daily, because we’re trying to get a pikachu. grrr. usually it’s every other week, if even that. usually i just go when it’s someone birthday, and i need to give a present.

5. Which of your daily tasks would you most like to see automated?

dishwashing.

Friday 5 for June 20: Too Much for My Taste

What’s too spicy for your tastes?

i used to love spicy foods, but i can’t really stomach them now.

What’s too sweet for your tastes?

soda. i used to love soda, but cut it out a few years ago–now if i happen to sip it, it’s just waaaay too sweet for me.

What’s too salty for your tastes?

almost everything is too salty! i’m used to not having any salt (family does not cook with salt due to high blood pressure issues) so whenever i go out to eat, i usually find things too salty.

What’s too bitter for your tastes?

coffee. bleah.

What’s too sour for your tastes?

oooo i can’t think of the name of it. there’s this dish that i just smell and i feel all blleeeeaaaahhh. hmm, can’t think of the name. will come back and edit when it comes to me.

all from friday5.
